Folio 16 x 11 1/2 inches, handsomely leather bound in recent half dark calf over marbled boards. THE LEPONTINE ALPS. First edition. Printed title, iv, 218 pages- illustrated with an engraved title with aquatint vignette, a large folding hand coloured map, engraved plan of Lyon and 25 fine sepia aquatint views. Complete. Minor marginal spotting. SECOND WORK - THE SOUTH OF FRANCE. First and only edition. Engraved vignette title, printed title, 2-56pp, 12 sepia aquatint views, 2 plans and one plate of antiquities. COMPLETE and a very clean copy. TWO WORKS IN ONE VOLUME. The second work contains really splendid views of the South of France including Antibes, Toulon and Marseilles. Sir Albanis Beaumont (circa 1753–1810) draughtsman, aquatint engraver, and landscape painter, was born in Piedmont, but naturalised in England. Between 1787 and 1806 he published a great number of views in the south of France, in the Alps, and in Italy of which these are among the most renown. Bibliography Abbey Travel 51 and 53.

A most unusual original record of 1930's American aeronautical hardware. Album is complete without photos missing but with no indication of the compiler. Names and places include Halifax N. S, Lockheed Sirus, Momocope Sportsplane, Sikorsky, Pitcairn Field, Douglas O. X, Ford Trimotered Transport, Pan American Airport Miami, Arrow Sport, Stinson Reliant, Ocean City, Bellanca, Beechcraft C17, Fairchild, Waco.

Quarto 11 3/4 x 9 1/4 inches, original eighteenth century calf gilt embossed boards, rebacked in calf to style. The fifth edition. xx, 417 pages and the Directions to the Binder. Illustrated with 42 engraved plates and maps. Complete. Small track to the back paste down and occasional marginal marks but a good copy with wide margins. The maps include a fine world map charting the voyage and a stunning quadruple size map of the channel of the Philippines, plus numerous fine views of the voyage. Anson's account of the voyage round the world 1740-1744. An extraordinary adventure but one that resulted in the death of about 90 percent of the crew to disease.

A PICTURESQUE REPRESENTATION OF THE MANNERS, CUSTOMS AND AMUSEMENTS OF THE RUSSIANS. In One Hundred Colour Plates. 1803
3 volumes in one, FIRST EDITON, with a stipple engraved portrait of Alexander 1 and 100 hand coloured plates being soft ground etchings with some aquatint by Atkinson - COMPLETE with title pages and accompanying leaves of text. Some marginal waterstaining throughout BUT not within the images, four plates only spotted within the image - thus a working or breaking copy. Mysteriously bound with a section from Mouradja d'Ohsson, Tableau General de l'Empire Othoman 1787- containing engraved title, dedication and 26 plates ONLY from the first volume of this work, plus the plate index on 4 text leaves. Why these are bound together is unknown. Leather bound in half nineteenth century dark calf, rubbed. THE FIRST RUSSIAN WORK IS SCARCE - WITH 100 FINE PLATES and is the first work in English to give an accurate representation of the manners and customs of the ordinary Russian people (DNB). According to Major Abbey in his bibliography - the plates show the spontaneity and spirit possible when the artist is his own engraver... the colour is skilfully done in soft washes. Illustrated with 24 FINE LARGE COLOURFUL CHROMOLITHOGRAPH VIEWS, and 19 plain lithographs on 6 sheets- all with accompanying text. Complete. EXTRA ILLUSTRATED with a fine large hand coloured wood engraving by Samuel Calvert - engraved by L. Buvelot and dated 1879- titled The Lyre Bird. A very decorative work on New Zealand. Charles Decimus Barraud 1822-1897 was a New Zealand pharmacist and artist. William Thomas Locke Travers 1819-1903, the editor, was a New Zealand worthy and was a founder and life governor of the New Zealand Institute.

Folio 19x13 inches, original boards with crude buckram back. VOLUME ONE OF THE FOLIO ATLAS ONLY- half title, title, 28 pages of descriptions of the plates and 74 of 75 lithograph plates (wanting plate 59). Small stain to the outer margins - see photographs. Frédéric Cailliaud was a French naturalist, mineralogist and conchologist. He was born, and died, in Nantes. He travelled in Egypt, Nubia, and Ethiopia, collecting minerals and making observations. This work provides an account of Cailliaud's second journey in Egypt between 1819 and 1822, published in collaboration with Jomard. He visited the oasis of Siwah and Jupiter Ammon and accompanied the military expedition of Ismail Pasha (son of Mehmet Ali) to Nubia, where he explored the ruins of the ancient city of Meroe, remarkable for its two hundred pyramids. The work is of particular importance for its abundance of detail on contemporary Egypt, its people and antiquities. This is volume one of the atlas only.
