Folio 16 x 11 1/2 inches, handsomely leather bound in recent half dark calf over marbled boards. THE LEPONTINE ALPS. First edition. Printed title, iv, 218 pages- illustrated with an engraved title with aquatint vignette, a large folding hand coloured map, engraved plan of Lyon and 25 fine sepia aquatint views. Complete. Minor marginal spotting. SECOND WORK - THE SOUTH OF FRANCE. First and only edition. Engraved vignette title, printed title, 2-56pp, 12 sepia aquatint views, 2 plans and one plate of antiquities. COMPLETE and a very clean copy. TWO WORKS IN ONE VOLUME. The second work contains really splendid views of the South of France including Antibes, Toulon and Marseilles. Sir Albanis Beaumont (circa 1753–1810) draughtsman, aquatint engraver, and landscape painter, was born in Piedmont, but naturalised in England. Between 1787 and 1806 he published a great number of views in the south of France, in the Alps, and in Italy of which these are among the most renown. Bibliography Abbey Travel 51 and 53.

Two of the plates are folding panoramas. Internally a good clean copy. A seminal and fairly scarce work on the topography of Ascension Island. Rear-Admiral William Allen FRS 1792–1864 was an English naval officer and explorer.

Quarto 11 3/4 x 9 1/4 inches, original eighteenth century calf gilt embossed boards, rebacked in calf to style. The fifth edition. xx, 417 pages and the Directions to the Binder. Illustrated with 42 engraved plates and maps. Complete. Small track to the back paste down and occasional marginal marks but a good copy with wide margins. The maps include a fine world map charting the voyage and a stunning quadruple size map of the channel of the Philippines, plus numerous fine views of the voyage. Anson's account of the voyage round the world 1740-1744. An extraordinary adventure but one that resulted in the death of about 90 percent of the crew to disease.

2 volumes folio 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches, full period vellum, a little dirty, with gilt lozenges to the spines. Collates as follows- volume one, half title, fine engraved frontispiece, vignette title, (vi), liv, (2), 214, (2), 444, (44). Volume two, vignette title, 446-508, 583-1017, (9), 142, (36) plus an errata leaf. Illustrated with 41 FINE ENGRAVED PLATES - made up of 2 large folding maps, 10 single page plates and 29 large folding plates including a triple page PANORAMA of Constantinople. The text is illustrated with 17 illustrations, some full page and numerous head and tail pieces and engraved initials. When compared to the collation of the Macclesfield copy sold at Sothebys in 2008- the index to volume one has 10 less leaves (but collates complete) and volume two has 2 additional leaves of text and 8 additional leaves of index plus the rare errata leaf. Firist edition of this seminal work on Constantinople - Banduri, a Benedictine archaeologist and numismatist born in Ragusa, came to Paris in 1702 and entered the abbey of St Germain des Pres; he proceeded to study the Byzantine manuscripts in the collections of the Bibliotheque royale and the Bibliotheque Colbert. The present work is a collection of writings on the history, geography, religion and antiquities of Constantinople, and includes the entire text of Pierre Gilles's De Bosporo Thracio and De topographia Constantinopleos, which had been first published in 1561 and 1562 respectively. A GOOD COPY with the bookplate of Hopetoun one of the most impressive Scottish stately homes.

Illustrated with 24 FINE LARGE COLOURFUL CHROMOLITHOGRAPH VIEWS, and 19 plain lithographs on 6 sheets- all with accompanying text. Complete. EXTRA ILLUSTRATED with a fine large hand coloured wood engraving by Samuel Calvert - engraved by L. Buvelot and dated 1879- titled The Lyre Bird. A very decorative work on New Zealand. Charles Decimus Barraud 1822-1897 was a New Zealand pharmacist and artist. William Thomas Locke Travers 1819-1903, the editor, was a New Zealand worthy and was a founder and life governor of the New Zealand Institute.

Tall quarto 15 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches, period dotted boards handsomely rebacked in calf. Bound from the original parts. Title, 1-8, list of plates and 1-38 pages, and illustrated with the rare frontispiece A Monument to Sir John Moore and 53 FINE HAND COLOURED PLATES, complete. A VERY EARLY ISSUE, with prepublication watermarks to both sections- watermarks 1809-1807 with the military sections watermarked 1807 and 1808. The military section thus printed before the text that was published in 1810 and published in later editions. A near period pencil annotation to the title says the book was owned by a noble subscriber (unknown). Very occasional finger marks and slight spotting to the frontispiece, but a lovely, crisp copy with untrimmed edges and bright fresh colour. Bibliography Abbey Travel 135.

Title in English, signed by Sir Arthur, title in French and ILLUSTRATED WITH 23 of 24 LARGE LITHOGRAPH PLATES- wanting plate number 3 and plate number 24 torn in the image. The plates are lithographs on India paper by by J.D. Harding and D. Dighton after Brooke. A BREAKING OR WORKING COPY- titles frayed and edges spotted but, if mounted to the India paper plate mark, 22 of the 24 plates are unusable images. A VERY SCARCE POLAR BOOK.
